giving thanks

November 28th, 2013

Gratitude is the memory of the heart.  I forget where I first heard this quote, but how true it is.  If we develop openheartedness, and as Brene Brown calls it, “wholeheartedness”, we will be more susceptible to giving thanks in our lives on a consistent basis.  On this day of thanks 2013, once again we are offered the reminder to be extra mindful of the simple gifts as well as the love that surrounds us.

I also heard once that love isn’t a concept–instead, it’s an action.  So taking action in the direction of love and gratitude are choices we can make every day.  In spite of the challenges that life throws our way, there is always a silver lining and a growth opportunity somewhere in the midst of it.

Today I feel grateful for the love in my life and the abundance of beauty that crosses my path if I remain open to it.  I have the privilege of sharing in the trials and tribulations of my client’s lives but also the celebrations and the victories along the way.  And isn’t that life–carrying both the pain and the joy, the defeats and the gratitude.  I wish all of you a very mindfully grateful holiday and also hope that it can be portable for you each and every day no matter how great or how small.
