giving thanks

November 26th, 2015

Another Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving 2015. So hard to believe we have arrived at another holiday season, and I do believe that the wheels of time accelerate as we grow older. Not in a bad way, but in a surprising way.

Giving thanks (aka gratitude) is actually a very simple thing, yet it’s a practice and an art. It requires us to slow down enough to be mindful of what is going on inside of us and outside of us. And where we choose to place our focus is up to us. Today I give thanks for all of the love in my life. In the past I think I either took it for granted or didn’t know how to slow down enough to notice it, but today–at least for today, I choose to slow down and have this mindful moment to take in the love and hopefully to give it back with as much generosity of heart and spirit I can muster.

My cocker spaniel is probably the expert at this art–the giving and receiving of love. He is always unconditionally giving love and at the same time longing for it in return. What a role model of intimacy these little creatures can be in our lives.

With all of the unrest in the world, I just want to take this moment in time to notice the love and peace around me and to cultivate it and let it expand…thanks for listening.
