Today I woke up and turned on CNN, but I had no idea that the bloodiest massacre in American history had occurred last night–more than fifty people killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida during Gay Pride Month. So far it looks like it may be a combination of radical, ISIS-type activity as well as a hate crime of unfathomable magnitude.

These mass killings are becoming a consistent part of 21st century life in the United States, but I cannot accept this as the norm. The ease of buying machine guns coupled with the crippling mental health issues present is a perfect storm for such events. I pray that our next administration will prioritize this tragic and disillusioning fact that innocent people are being killed for no reason.
